1. Information We Collect

We collect information you provide when you create an account, edit your profile, submit books, create bookshelves, follow users or bookshelves, write reviews, send support requests, and use other community features. This may include your username, @ handle, email address, profile content, bookshelf metadata, support messages, and any content you choose to publish on the site.

2. Cookies and Similar Technologies

LiteratureMenu uses cookies primarily for account sessions and security. These cookies are used to keep you signed in, associate requests with your account session, and help protect forms and account actions against abuse and forgery attacks.

At this time, we primarily use cookies for:

  • session management, so you stay logged in between page loads;
  • security protections, including CSRF protection for form submissions and account actions; and
  • basic operational behavior tied to authenticated use of the site.

We do not currently use cookies for third-party advertising or behavioral ad targeting.

3. How We Use Information

We use the information we collect to operate the site, provide account features, maintain libraries and bookshelves, personalize platform pages, deliver notifications, respond to support requests, moderate submissions, improve the service, and protect LiteratureMenu and its users.

4. Public and Private Content

Some information is visible to other users depending on your settings and your actions. This can include your username, @ handle, public profile details, public bookshelves, bookshelf descriptions, bookshelf tags and genres, reviews, and other content you choose to make public. Your privacy settings control whether profile sections such as activity and bookshelves are visible to others.

5. Email and Account Security

If email is enabled on the site, we may send you account-related messages such as welcome emails, password reset emails, support replies, notification emails you have opted into, and verification codes for sensitive account changes such as changing your @ handle or password. Your notification and email preferences can be managed in your account settings.

6. Information Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We may share limited information with service providers that help us operate the site, such as email delivery providers used to send transactional and notification emails. We may also disclose information where reasonably necessary to comply with law, enforce site rules, respond to abuse, or protect the rights, safety, and security of LiteratureMenu, our users, or others.

7. Data Retention

We retain account and content data for as long as needed to operate the service, maintain community features, and comply with legal or security obligations. Some operational and moderation records, including support requests, submissions, and notifications, may be retained for safety, auditing, and service management purposes.

8. Your Choices

You can update your account details, profile settings, privacy settings, appearance settings, platform tastes, and email preferences from your account settings. You can also control what profile information and bookshelf activity is visible to other users through the privacy controls provided on the site.

9. Security

We use reasonable administrative and technical measures intended to protect information against unauthorized access, misuse, and disclosure. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we use security features such as session handling, CSRF protection, authentication controls, and moderation workflows to reduce risk.

10. Contact Us

If you have privacy questions, support concerns, or requests related to your account, you can use the support tools on the site or contact us at support@literaturemenu.com.
